As a way to get some of my comic mojo back is to just simply sketch stuff… anything, even if its garbage, as long as I draw. As part of the relaunch, I wanted to attempt to give Lorraine and Robyn a mild makeover, or update, to their looks while still retaining their original attitude.
Lorraine’s hair over the years started off at a medium length and then, depending on my mood, what go from shoulder length to halfway down her back. With that in mind, I wanted to give her hair an update so that I have a good character model sheet to reference as I draw upcoming comics. These sketches are by no means anywhere final, but I thought I would share them all the same. I’ll post more as I have it. The good thing is that even though I don’t draw every day, I’m at least getting the urge to do so more than I have in several months.
I cannot tell you how much I love Paul McCartney’s album “RAM.” I bought the cassette not long after it came out in 1971 and I wore that thing out playing it so much so that I had to buy the vinyl version so I could record a new cassette to put in the tape’s sleeve. In my opinion, “RAM” is his best effort as you can feel he just didn’t give a shit about how it would be received and it shows as the album is all over the place with song styles, playing techniques, and lyrics. So, with that in mind, the song “Long Haired Lady” fits today’s post. There’s a hint of the “Hey Jude” ending as the song repeats the chorus over and over making the song 6:00 minutes long.
Fantastic work on this. Very detailed capturing the essence of the character. Keep up your great art.
Nice sketchwork, the lower two have a sort of almost ‘Archie’ look to them.
I popped in to put this one on the last page, but it can go here just as well
It’s still Ozzy…ish. The last few seconds of the clip ‘aren’t’ 🙂

I wish I had the time and the talent to create stuff like that! Ozzy singing John Denver is truly a match made in hell. 🙂
But what about John Denver singing Ozzy ? that works too 😉
Song mashups are a lot easier now than they used to be, you can even get a program to match time signatures and rhythm lines between tunes instead of remembering that “any Emily Dickinson poem can be sung to the tune of “The Yellow Rose of Texas”.
This guy gets it spot on 🙂

Also… my style is often compared to the “Archie” comics, but I think I lean more toward Hanna-Barbera cartoons, especially their work on “Jonny Quest” or “Space Ghost.” Those two sketches you’re referring to do have an Archie vibe.
Well, you do have stationary characters, make the backgrounds move and it’ll be pure 70’s cartoon 🙂
Ozzy really DID sing a Bee Gees song with Dweezil Zappa. He did a cover of staying Alive, this isn’t an AI reconstruction.
