The second of four comics paying homage to the original “1977” comics drawn back in 2008. Enter Jeff, Bud’s new landlord!

My original intent was to simply update the old comics with newer fonts, improved dialog, and updated coloring. But by the time I started this second comic, I knew I had to redraw the old comics. My ADHD just wouldn’t let me fix the text and leave what I perceived as really bad drawing. The comics are fine for the experience level I had back in 2008, but I felt I should polish them up to a better level. Well, once I started diving into the first year’s comics, I saw how I jumped around from topic to topic and was never really focused on where the comic, and the characters, were going. Hell, I had no idea I would still be drawing them 17 years later, I was hoping for a year or two back in 2008.

A little trivia: From time to time I add little inside jokes in the comics. In this one, it is the headline and subheading on the front page of the newspaper Bud is reading. In college, in my writing for news class, we were taught the headline should have a local angle. In this cause, a “local woman dies on cruise.” The subheading should then entice folks to read further and it simply says “Japan destroyed.” If you worked in news writing, you would be on the floor laughing right about now. I didn’t say the inside jokes worked for everyone.

Bud has been “Going Mobile” since he left home and ended up sleeping in his car. Luckily for him, Jeff needed someone to rent out a spare room! And the story begins to take shape. Also, everyone needs to have a copy of “Who’s Next” in their music collection. It is a defining classic rock album and, in my opinion, is the best music The Who ever produced.
